Welcome to Tyra's Blog

Tyra is a very brave 3 year old girl from the Isle of Wight who
has stage 4 Wilms syndrome (if you want more info there is plenty on the net), This means that she has a tumor on her right kidney (well there's no kidney left it's all tumor 11cm big) and also cancer in her lungs. Here on her blog you will be able to follow her progress and if you would like you can help her parents Vicky and Steve with the huge costs related to her treatment, you can help by using the donate button to the right.

We're on for chemo Wednesday as counts have gone up, be good to have a day out tomorrow before chemo and all that comes with it.

Thursday, December 9, 2010

Southampton yesterday,no chemo as blood counts still too low. was ok she's put weight on with the feeds I'm giving her which is great! Had a chest x-ray and detailed ultrasound on her abdomen won't get the results till next week though.

Christmas party on Sunday was good, tyra had a lovely time dancing and meeting father Christmas. She even ate 2 small sausages lol.

Saturday, December 4, 2010

Hopefully off to Southampton tomorrow for the children's cancer ward Christmas party. Will be nice for Tyra to be able to play with other children!

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Had a quiet week, only been out once as weather so cold! Blood test today and counts really low so don't want any visitors with colds lol.

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Single chemo today and blood tests to see how her. Counts are doing, awkward time as it's when Tia finishes school

Friday, November 19, 2010

All went ok on Wednesday, echo was clear so that's great and she'd put a bit of weight on which means the feeds are working. Chemo has made her tired but she's still smiling.

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Off to Southampton in the morning, nice early ferry as they're now on winter timetable. heart echo at 10am to check that her heart's still ok before she has the triple chemo in the afternoon. Going to be a long day.

Friday, November 12, 2010

Visited surgeon on wed and he's really pleased with her, triple chemo next wed in Southampton. Really pleased as I've started to learn to take her blood myself which she prefers.

Pictures from the football 07.11.10

Still in st marys but getting narky now as apart from a temperature which is up and down there doesn't seem to be anything wrong. Football match yesterday was great! Tyra loved taking the match ball out onto the pitch, unfortunately she couldn't stay too long but she watched the first half and was glued lol. Thanks go out to all the players and everyone who helped especial thanks go out to Jamie bray and Dan Scott who organized it, brilliant day had by all.

Thursday, November 4, 2010

In st marys hospital, temperature kept coming and going then got high so had to bring her in. Will be here for at least 48 hours now incase she has a blood infection, hopefully it's just a virus as stuck in for 5 days if it is her blood. Still hoping to make an appearance at the football on Sunday but will have to see.

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Had a quiet few days, blood test yesterday she had low platelets and was still neutrapenic, so they've just done another test as possibility of her needing some platelets. Had a slight temperature over night so keeping an eye on that at the moment.

Now over in southampton waiting to start radiotherapy tomorrow. Due for 8.50am hopefully she'll be ok after the general.

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Blood test results had gone up slightly yesterday so we're on fo a double chemo later today. Tyra didn't stop yesterday I don't know where she gets her energy from but better than the alternative :)

Sunday, October 3, 2010

Brilliant night last night with Tyra's fundraising disco, I want to say a big thank you to the people who organised it, wish Tyra could of been there.

Friday, October 1, 2010

Blood results no better (worse) so unfortunately she won't be able to make an appeariance at the disco tomorrow night, which is a real shame.
Ct scan went fine yesterday, she was very grumpy the rest of the day after the anestitic, so not looking forward to 10 days of that. Blood test in a bit to see if she's still neutrapenic.

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Off to Southampton for CT scan under general to map Tyra for radiotherapy today.

Monday, September 27, 2010

Blood test again today, neutraphils at 0.2 so no immune system again, great with all the colds going around. Off to southampton tomorrow to see the radiologyst and find out the long and short term side effects of radiotherapy.

Sunday, September 26, 2010

Been very grumpy today, have a slight cold so going to have to keep an eye on her temperature. Blood test tomorrow to see how her levels are.

Thank you

Just want to say thank you to kev pierce and his friends for the sponsored cycle round the island they did today. You're all lovely. X

Thursday, September 23, 2010

It's a good job I chased Southampton today as they've changed the dates for her CT scan! Now on thursday at 9am and an appointment on tuesday with the radiotherapy consultant! We were expecting to go on friday.

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Chemo today, also new feeding tube and she was so brave. So proud of her!

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Poor little thing was sick last night and her feeding tube came out, so going to have to get another put in asap.

Saturday, September 18, 2010

Had a good day today so far, eaten all her lunch which is great as I was starting to worry about her eating again. Slight hair loss again but there's still a layer hanging on...

Friday, September 17, 2010

Tyra had the chemo in Southampton on wed and we got the histology results. There are 28 more weeks of chemo to come and they still want to do radiotherapy to the abdomen and lungs, which will have to be under ga every day as she won't keep still for long enough on her own. Ct scan booked on the 1st oct to set up radiotherapy. Got a couple of names to try and get her pink wig so will chase that up next week. She's doing ok at mo feeling a bit sick but on medication for that.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Off to Southampton for chemo and results of histology, let's hope results are good!

Saturday, September 11, 2010

Chemo went ok on Wednesday, due to go to Southampton on this Wednesday for a triple chemo including the four hour drip and hopefully the results of the biopsy. Then we should find out the future plan for the rest of the treatment. All still up in the air! We're feeling totally drained at the moment.

Operation successful

We've just got back from the kidney removal operation in southampton. All went well and she is recovering so quickly. Huge scar but nothing we can do about that. Straight back on chemo now and in a couple of weeks radiotherapy will start...it's never ending.

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Had to have a blood transfusion today, went well and she was so good. Tests tomorrow to see if it has worked.

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Waiting for southampton hospital to confirm when the ultra sound is to check Tyra's artery for cancer. They're not being overly forthcoming with info at the moment, which is frustraiting!

Saturday, August 21, 2010

Had a good night slept really well. Waiting to hear when her echo on her artery will be before the operation. (this is to find out if the cancer has spread into the artery) as the surgeon wants to know before he starts to operate.

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Getting ready to go to southampton in the morning for meeting with the surgeon, not going to be fun him telling us what can go wrong but I suppose they have to! On count down of last few hours till birthday, nice pile of prezzies sat waiting to be opened by her first thing :-D

Monday, August 16, 2010

Blood results bad! transfusion on hand at st mary's....got to keep a close eye on her as she could go down hill fast, has a Hb of 65 and this is 5 under the minimum for a transfusion....however because she is not lathargic they're holding off

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Hair definately falling out though not as fast as last time. Had quite a good night she almost slept through but a bit restless. A bit grumpy today but had a busy day being prodded and poked yesterday so only to be expected.

Friday, August 13, 2010

Back from hospital, CT scan went ok not got results yet have asked hospital to E-mail copies of the scans when they have them. Chemo went ok too but she's quite wiped out now and very tired.

Message from Katie Mairis

Hi Vicky. I have been thinking about your recent dliemma of funding and finance.... I sell greetings cards, gift wrap etc from home.... there are a few problems with my website at the moment, but when it is up and running I am happy to donate 15% of anything I make from people who say they are supporting you.... of course, I can put catalogues out to people who want them regardless of the state of my website!!
7.30am ferry to southampton tomorrow for CT scan and chemo. Got to be sedated for scan, really hoping we get the CT scan results before we have to come home!
Hair seems to be falling out again we'll have to see how bad it gets.

Copies of CT scans

Here are pictures of the CT scans. One is of tyra's lower chest showing the healthy kidney which is small like a kidney bean and the other side is a large mass which is the other kidney that has been totally taken over by the tumor.

the next picture is of her chest and shows both lungs with multipul cancerous growths, the large white circle at the front is her heart, which thank god is clear!

Hospital dates

Found out yesterday that her operation which was on the 31st Aug is now the 2nd Sept! and they couldn't even give me a reason, it's getting very frustraighting the dates changing, this is the fourth time!

Monday, August 9, 2010

Blood test results today all fell dramatically and she is neutrapenic again (no immune system) so keeping a close eye on her ready to whisk her up the hospital if needs be.
